Day 18 Málaga & Barcelona

Yesterday we left our ship, the Atlas Navigator, and climbed on to a bus with the rest of our group for a ride up to the top of the city where the fortress is located. After touring the fortress, we walked down to the old city and saw where Picasso was born and where he hung out as a child. We ran into a little problem with our group and we had to split up our group into two. The ones who could walk at a decent pace and those that can't. They really should read the descriptions of the trip before deciding to try to take on an adventure like this. Then we started out walking in the old city and seeing the sites. We got a little free time before it was our turn to visit the Picasso Museum. The art that Picasso did is really not my cup of tea but some of his works I did like. After the museum, we headed for a nice lunch in the harbor very near our ship. Nothing too elaborate but it was filling and the wine was free. After lunch we got on the bus and headed to the airport to catch our flight to Barcelona. By the time we got to Barcelona it was about 8:00 pm. When we went to get our bags, most of the group followed a couple of people that misread the monitor and went to the wrong carousel. We waited for our bags for a long time before the carousel started spitting them all out with exception of one bag that caused about a 30 min delay as they had to fill out the claim forms. So we found our guide and waited for the party with the missing bag to show up and then departed for our hotel. We arrived around 10:00 pm and everyone was exhausted but many managed to power up for a drink at the roof top bar. Then it was off to bed for some much needed sleep. Here are the pics.

For what ever reason the pics loaded in reverse order.

Picasso's museum.

A quick pit stop for some wine.

The main walking/shopping area of Malaga.

The cathedral is still under construction.

One of the floats being carried.

These floats are used in festivals and are carried through the city by men carrying them. Yes that is solid silver, it takes hundreds of men to carry these.

Larkin being Larkin.

The church where Picasso was baptized.

Ran into Picasso in the square he hung out in.

The fortress had a commanding view of the Mediterranean.

The model of the fortress.
